
Mark Jenneys
Mark Jenneys is a qualified shipwright and shipwright surveyor and Master Class 4.
Mr Jenneys is ORCA’s State Manager for South Australia. Prior to joining ORCA in 2008 he was employed by the South Australian government. As the marine and harbours department’s Marine Operations Supervisor he was responsible for the coordination of all maintenance on State and AMSA owned spill response equipment in South Australia. He was also the South Australian Training Coordinator responsible for all oil spill response training in the State and he was the Incident Controller for all marine pollution emergency response operations within the State.
Mr Jenneys has 17 years experience in oil spill response operations up to and including incident controller level. Incidents that he has attended include the Iron Baron oil spill in Launceston, Tasmania in 1995, the Maersk Victory oil rig collapse in the Gulf of St Vincent in 1995, the Super Servant 3 bunker oil spill in Adelaide in 1995, the Port Stanvac refinery pipeline spill in Adelaide in 1999 and the Pacific Responder spill off Brisbane in 2009.
He was heavily involved on-site following incidents where contingency arrangements to respond to a spill were put in place following incidents in South Australian waters, including the Sea Crane (1995), the Western Winner (1997), the Pelander (2000) and the Pactrader (2003). He attended the Devprayag grounding of Portland in Victoria in 2001 and the Peacock grounding on Piper Reef off the Queensland coast in 1995.
Mr Jenneys has attended over 250 Tier 1 incidents, including black oil spills, in South Australia in an on-call advisory and/or assessment and response capacity. Between 1997 and 2008 when he left government service in South Australia he was the incident controller for the majority of Tier 1 incidents that required a cleanup response.
He is a highly skilled and experienced trainer who between 2000 and 2008 developed five training manuals, course notes and training aids and delivered approximately 45 training courses and workshops and numerous desktop and practical exercises for South Australia.
Mr Jenneys is a highly skilled maintainer who carried out extensive refits to three National Plan oil response vessels and the construction of seven State owned patrol vessels during his period of government service.
As a qualified shipwright and a former marine operations supervisor with South Australian government agencies Mr Jenneys is able to demonstrate a high level of knowledge and experience in marine environment protection operations. He is well qualified to provide support to ORCA clients in a range of activities, including training, response operations and equipment maintenance. Mark is a member of ORCA’s oil spill response Incident Management Team (IMT) that is available nationwide to provide support to government and industry agencies affected by a major oil spill.
